Are Business Cards Dead?

TAGS:

Do we need physical business cards anymore? Because these days, all that information is on our phones, right? And, we could just text people our number. Or is it better to actually have a physical business card? Now, I just got back from a trade show and I thought I would do the green responsible thing and get one of these special business cards that are more like a credit card that have NFC (Near Field Communication) that will pop up the information, or, they can scan a QR code. I thought,” This is great! Now I don’t have to carry a bunch of business cards.” Although now, I’m not so sure anymore because what do you do when people meet you and they say, “Hey, do you have a card?”

I end up having to tell them, “You gotta scan that QR code,” or, “Here, tap this,” so I’m making them do more work in a sense. I’m doing that instead of just giving them something easy like a business card and the brand power that it represents; something they can take in their hands and look at and examine. With the NFC thing, at the end of the day, once they go, they’re thinking, “Wait a minute, who was that person I met?” So now they have to go into their phone and try to remember my name to find my information, as opposed to just doing a pocket dump and finding my business card, getting that sort of top of mind awareness a piece of collateral like a physical business card would bring you.

So, if you are considering going in this NFC business card direction, take all this into consideration, because personally I found it kind of weird. I want to know your thoughts on this in the comments section. What’s your opinion? Are business cards dead?

Let me know what you think.
